WASHINGTON, March 31, 2014— House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., announced he will retire after he completes his last nine months serving in the House of Representatives.
“Serving in Congress is the great honor of my professional life,” he said. “I am deeply grateful to the people of the 4th Congressional District for placing their trust in me. Over the years, their unwavering support has been a source of strength, purpose and inspiration.”
House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., issued a statement praising Camp’s career in Congress.
“As Chairman, Dave has epitomized what it means to put the best policy forward, and then work together - and across the aisle - to achieve consensus, as evidenced by his imprimatur on the many important bills that have been signed into law,” McCarthy said. “While I am both professionally and personally saddened to hear Dave's announcement, I am happy for him and his family as they begin the next chapter of their lives later this year.”
Camp served in Congress since 1991 and became chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in 2011.
