WASHINGTON, Nov. 14, 2013 – The House announced its conferees today for the upcoming negotiations with the Senate over legislation to reauthorize the nation’s water resources development programs.
Sixteen Republicans and 12 Democrats were named to the conference. The Senate has already named its conferees, but it is unclear when a formal conference may convene.
The House’s bipartisan Water Resources Reform and Development Act (H.R. 3080) needs to be reconciled with the Senate’s Water Resources Development Act (S. 601). Both bills seek to re-authorize the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop, maintain, and support the nation’s vital port and waterways infrastructure needs, and support effective and targeted flood protection and environmental restoration needs.
House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, R-Pa., said the conferees are “an excellent team of knowledgeable, thoughtful, and hard-working members of Congress.”
The Republican conferees from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee include: Committee Chairman Bill Shuster, Pa., Reps. John J. Duncan, Tenn., Frank LoBiondo, N.J., Sam Graves, Mo., Shelley Moore Capito, W. Va., Candice Miller, Mich., Duncan Hunter, Calif., Larry Bucshon, Ind., Bob Gibbs, Ohio, Richard Hanna, N.Y., Daniel Webster, Fla., Tom Rice, S.C., Markwayne Mullin, Okla., and Rodney Davis, Ill. The Republican conferees from the House Natural Resources Committee include Rep. Doc Hastings, Wash., and Rep. Rob Bishop, Utah.
The Democratic conferees from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee include: Ranking member Nick Rahall, W.Va., Reps. Peter DeFazio, Ore., Corrine Brown, Fla., Eddie Bernice Johnson, Texas, Tim Bishop, N.Y., Donna Edwards, Md., John Garamendi, Calif., Janice Hahn, Calif., Rick Nolan, Minn., Lois Frankel, Fla., and Cheri Bustos, Ill. In addition, Rep. Grace Napolitano, Calif., member of the House Natural Resources Committee will serve as a Democratic conferee.
