WASHINGTON, Sept. 4, 2013 – The Commerce Department announced Tuesday that a ninth administrative review and an eleventh new shipper review of the antidumping duty on certain frozen fish fillets from Vietnam have found that the product has been sold below normal value.
The department said the results were preliminary and covered the period of Aug. 1, 2011 to July 31, 2012.
“If these preliminary results are adopted in the final results, the department will instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection to assess antidumping duties on all appropriate entries of subject merchandise,” the department said.
Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee ranking member Thad Cochran, R-Miss., has been actively pushing against the imports of lower-priced Vietnamese “catfish.”
The Commerce Department, on several occasions, has found that the U.S. catfish industry has been harmed by the lower-priced Vietnamese imports.
Earlier this year, Cochran said the industry has been “harmed for years by unfair trade practices.”
“I believe that on a level playing field, our producers can compete with anyone,” Cochran said.
The department said final results of their review will come in 120 days.
