WASHINGTON, June 11, 2013 – The Senate Finance Committee approved today, by unanimous voice vote, the nomination of Mike Froman to serve as U.S. trade representative.
“Mr. Froman is the right man to lead USTR. He has the experience and the knowledge to help tackle America’s ambitious trade agenda,” said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., said. “I am glad he got such strong support in committee. He now deserves that same support in the full Senate. We need to quickly approve this nomination so Mr. Froman can hit the ground running and get to work.”
At his recent nomination hearing, Froman said the administration will continue to push for reauthorization of Trade Promotion Authority, or fast track promotion ability. In addition, Froman said he will work to get approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.
His nomination now moves to a final vote in the full Senate.
Froman is currently the assistant to the president and deputy national security advisor for international economics.
