Zajkowski joins Agri-Pulse as summer intern

Cornell University student Jake Zajkowski has joined the Agri-Pulse team of journalists as an intern this summer in Washington.

Zajkowski is writing and conducting research for the Agri-Pulse and Agri-Pulse West newsletters — which are must-read, subscriber-only products offering the latest ag and food policy information — and also contributing to the Agri-Pulse DriveTime podcast and Newsmakers TV show at Agri-Pulse.com.

An Ohio native, he is a junior agriculture science major at Cornell, with experience as a farm broadcaster for the Ohio Ag Net, a staffer in the Ohio Legislature, a strategic partners intern with the Ohio Farm Bureau and an international dialogues intern for the World Food Prize Foundation.

“Our internship program provides valuable experience for aspiring journalists, but we at Agri-Pulse also benefit from the varied experiences our interns bring us. Jake is no exception, having grown up in Ohio working in vegetable fields and as a landscape designer, and later managing greenhouse production of tomatoes,” said Agri-Pulse Editor-in-Chief Philip Brasher.

At Cornell, Zajkowski reports on food system transformation for Cornell’s Food Systems and Global Change — a climate and food systems research group —where he writes, develops video content and hosts video series across New York state. He also has been involved in plant breeding and seed research, which has influenced his interest in plant biotechnology.

“My reporting is shaped by years spent on farms, working in horticulture labs, drafting legislation in state legislatures and reporting on industry updates for food producers,” Zajkowski said.
