WASHINGTON, Dec. 12, 2013 - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to China later this month as part of the U.S. delegation to the 24th session of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT).
Vilsack will accompany Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman, who are co-chairs of the session, being held in Beijing Dec. 19-20, the USDA said today in a statement. Vice Premier Wang Yang is heading the Chinese delegation.
Vilsack said the JCCT is an important venue to work with China on critical trade matters. "America’s farmers and ranchers are extremely productive and are ready to build on five years of record U.S. agricultural exports,’’ the secretary said.
The U.S. exported $110 billion of goods to China in 2012, almost six times the value of shipments in 2000, according to the USDA. The country was the third-largest market for the U.S., behind Canada and Mexico.
