WASHINGTON, March 16, 2015 – Leaders of key Senate committees are asking the Obama administration to allow more time for public comment on recommendations for the 2015 dietary guidelines.
The current, 45-day comment period ends on April 8. The chairmen and ranking Democrats on the Agriculture and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committees are asking for another 30 days.
“This advisory committee report included recommendations that are notably different from previous guidelines, which will require additional time to develop thoughtful feedback,” the senators say in a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.

"An extension would be extremely beneficial to help continue the transparent process and ensure that the final report is of the utmost scientific integrity,” the senators say.
