WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2013 – Six-term U.S. Senator and Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Committee Thad Cochran, R-Miss., announced he will seek reelection next year.

“Our nation and the State of Mississippi continue to face many challenges and opportunities,” Cochran said in a statement issued today. “We must work to defend our national security interests, roll back burdensome policies like Obamacare, continue the fight to reduce our national debt and create opportunities for more jobs and economic growth.”

In what is expected to be a tough primary, Cochran will run against conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel who announced he was running in October. McDaniel has support from conservative groups including the Club for Growth.
